A Guide to Life
My new book - and as promised, a discount code!
“Physical pilgrimages are part of every major religion because they embody the great pilgrimage of our lives. They are moments when we step out of our routine to encounter the living God.
Whenever we make a pilgrimage—whether it is to a foreign country or a shrine just down the road—that pilgrimage is a microcosm of life. When we embark on a pilgrimage, we are manifesting outwardly the inward, spiritual disposition that we Christians are to have throughout our entire lives of ongoing conversion. These pilgrimages, made for a variety of reasons, have the potential to be watershed moments of transformation.”
From Making a Pilgrimage: A Catholic Companion
Yesterday, the glorious Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, seemed as good as day as any to announce my second book, Making a Pilgrimage: A Catholic Companion. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which stands over both Golgotha and the empty tomb of Our Lord, has been a place of pilgrimage since it was built in the fourth century. Golgotha itself has been a place of pilgrimage since the death of Our Lord, as evidenced by the Romans building a temple on the spot to deter the visits of Christians (more in my book on that).
While there are chapters on the Holy Land and Rome, both favorite pilgrimage sites for centuries, the book is not intended to be a guidebook to any particular place. If it is a guidebook, it’s a guidebook to life.
It’s really a pilgrim’s guide to everywhere.
Because we are all pilgrims, regardless of whether we embark on a physical journey or not. You are on the pilgrimage of life.
And once you see life in this way, it changes everything.
Available for preorder from Emmaus Road Publishing now: Making a Pilgrimage: A Catholic Companion. As a friend and member of my community, you get 15% off with the promo code PILGRIMAGE15 now through November 1.
If it is a guidebook, it’s a guidebook to life.
